Salemwindfacts is a project of Salem Alliance for the Environment, a local environmental group dedicated to assuring that Salem, a historical maritime community located on Massachusetts’ North Shore, is a healthy and prosperous place in which to live. Like many older industrial cities, Salem faces environmental challenges.
The City of Salem has proposed putting a 1.5 megawatt wind turbine at Winter Island. This project would produce clean energy, reduce our city’s “carbon footprint,” and generate revenue. Over the life of the project, we would reduce carbon emissions by 80,000 tons. We would also generate between $170,000 and $700,000 annually to offset the city’s energy bill.
This website was created by SAFE to provide information about wind energy and the proposed project in order to educate and inform, and to engage Salem’s citizens in the public process that will determine the future of this project.
